Half a Century of guard: China's Jiangxi Medical Team Assists Africa for 50 Years
Since 1973, the first batch of medical teams from Jiangxi Province in China went to Tunisia to carry out medical aid missions, which has been ongoing for 51 years. Over the past half century, Jiangxi Province has dispatched a total of 45 batches of 1468 medical team members to aid foreign countries. They have trained local medical personnel in Tunisia and Chad, conducted free clinics and patrols, donated medical supplies, and provided 7.8 million medical services with exquisite medical skills and noble medical ethics. They have developed nearly a hundred new technologies and improved the level of local medical services.
They have successively established the Tunisian Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion Center, the Chinese Chadian Ophthalmology Center, and the Chinese Chadian Key Counterpart Support for Neonatal Pediatrics. Chad's first pathology department, 8 medical teams and 27 team members were respectively awarded the national advanced collective and exemplary individual in foreign aid medical work. The Chadian government, the Chinese Embassy in Tunisia, and the Chinese Embassy in Chad sent letters to the People's Government of Jiangxi Province and the Chinese Health Commission 10 times, thanking the foreign aid medical team of Jiangxi Province for its effective work. The Minister of Health of Tunisia and the Minister of Health of Chad also issued honorary certificates to praise the medical team. On August 30, 1994, acupuncture and moxibustion Detachment of the 11th batch of Chinese (Jiangxi) medical aid team to Tunisia entered the Martha acupuncture and moxibustion Center assisted by China to carry out French acupuncture and moxibustion teaching and acupuncture and moxibustion diagnosis and treatment services. The Health Commission of Jiangxi Province organized the "Bright Tour" to aid Chad, filling 9 technical gaps and receiving commendation from the Ministry of Health of Chad. The picture shows experts from the Affiliated Ophthalmology Hospital of Nanchang University successfully performing free cataract restoration surgery on a girl under 2 years old.
In 2019, the 23rd batch of medical teams from China (Jiangxi) to aid Tunisia broke the record by working more than 80 hours a week in obstetrics and gynecology. The picture shows medical team members taking care of newborn babies.
Wang Li Ni, a member of the Chinese Jiangxi Medical Assistance Team to Africa, performed traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for patients.
Guo Luping, the 21st batch of medical team members from Jiangxi to Tunisia, won the "Bethune" medal, the national March 8th Red Flag bearer, China's "most beautiful doctor", China's advanced individual in foreign aid medical work, and other honors. In December 2020, the Minister of Health of Tunisia and the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia awarded an honorary certificate to the 24th batch of medical teams supported by China (Jiangxi) in Tunisia.
In 2023, members of the 18th batch of medical teams assisting Chad will teach local medical personnel.
